correct solutions below:
Solution to Magical Triangle:

Fig. solution
The large triangle is actually no triangle at all because the hypotenuse has a kink, in fact one kink inwards and one kink outwards,
always just there where the small triangles come together. You can see this If you look carefully along the hypotenuse.
To be somewhat more analytical: area observation of the individual elements:
- orange area: 7 units (U)
- light green areas: 8 U
- red triangle: (8x3)/2 = 12 U
- green triangle: (2x5)/2 = 5 U
=> together make: 7+8+12+5 = 32 U
area observation of the entire large triangle:(13x5)/2 = 32.5 U
There's something a bit odd here...
Since the sizes of the 4 areas really do not change then the 32.5 MUST be wrong.
On the other hand the area calculation for the large triangle is correct. Then obviously the assumption must be wrong that the large area is a triangle. A possible confirmation of this theory runs via the angles of the two triangles: let's assume that a and b are the angles bottom left of the red triangle and/or of the green triangle.
Then it is true that:- tan(a)=3/8=1/.666 and tan(b)=2/5=1/2.5. Hence tan(a) is unequal to tan(b) and hence a is unequal to b. If, however, a is unequal to b, then the supposed hypotenuse has the above-mentioned kink and the large area is not a triangle.
The upper area hast 32 U and the lower area 33 U. Hence the differing area can be traced back to the differing inclination of the triangles.
Solutions to the match puzzle:
By moving one match in each case you will get the correct solutions.
